If you are currently experiencing pain in your jaw or facial area that just isn’t getting any better, you are not alone. Facial and jaw problems are not uncommon, and they can be caused by a variety of conditions which can be exacerbated over time without timely treatment.

To determine the cause of your pain, your dentist can perform a thorough examination of your face and neck area and even use X-rays to view beneath the surface. What will be looking for? Some possible conditions we will be on the lookout for are jaw tenderness, recurring headaches, and pain in the ears. Our dentist will be on the lookout for the following:

— Trauma or injury in the face or jaw

— A toothache that won’t go away

— Sinus problems

— Tooth grinding

— Arthritis of the jaw

— Infections, such as an abscessed tooth

— Advancing gum disease

— Jaw or your temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues

Once an examination has been made, and the problem diagnosed, solutions might include a mouth guard (or night guard), facial exercises, prescription muscle relaxants, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, root canal therapy, tooth extraction, or periodontal (advanced gum disease) treatment.

At Arizona Dental, our dentist, Dr. Joe Gerard and dental team in Phoenix, Arizona, are ready to work with you to determine the cause of your facial or jaw pain. Please call 602-910-3860 if you would like to schedule an evaluation with our team.
