The Overdenture Implant Process
When you receive implant overdentures, our dentist begins by taking impressions. These impressions help us determine the correct positioning of the teeth on your new dentures, and confirm the best location for each implant. They are also used to ensure that you receive the correct bite and a natural-looking appearance. We often provide a copy of your impression for your surgeon as guidance during your implant placement procedure.
The Science Behind Implant Overdentures
An implant overdenture, also known as an implant-supported denture or snap-on denture, fits over your dental implants to provide your restoration with greater stability. Implant overdentures are used to replace the teeth in a full arch when all of your teeth are missing. This restoration “snaps” into place to offer you greater comfort and an improved chewing ability, and is removable to make it easier to clean both your dentures and the dental implants that support them. Often, an upper overdenture will require more implants for support than a lower overdenture. Depending on your needs, it may be possible to create an upper denture without a palate (roof of the mouth).
